Happy St David's day!!
This morning I am pissed off to say the least! I promised I wouldn't say anything, so I am going to write instead!
I am sure many of you have mornings really similar to this one so hopefully you can extend your empathy to this!
My morning (so far I hasten to add!)
5.30am - awoken by #1son who is a budding writer and was up with the lark and his creative inspiration (added to that he cannot do anything quietly, so this dawn chorus started with doors banging, pencils being dropped and lights flashing on!), get out of bed to ask him to go back to bed.
5.45 - #2 son, singing
6am - give up sleep as a bad job, get up, huffing and go to bathroom.
6.05 - shower, en route picking up pencils, turning off lights, opening our curtains and removing wet towel from shower room floor where it had been soaking up from a dripping faucet!
6.10 - out of shower, throw on clothes, pick up more pencils, wake up daughter
6.16 - dress after chasing underwear around the house being sported by said daughter on her head! - "me mummy, funny, me mummy, funny!"
6.20 - go downstairs to find husband sheepishly trying to charge battery for #2 son's play today (note - I asked him to do this over a week ago!) engage in small angry spat about his lack of awareness of the rest of the world whilst emptying dishwasher, pouring milk on children's cereal, orange juice into cups and letting dog out.
6.25 - wipe up spills, sort out vitamins, let dog in,
6.27 - re-sort vitamins which have ended up IN the dog! wipe up more spills, put on first load of laundry
6.29 - clear breakfast things and reload the dishwasher, fall over dog who wants to be fed.
6.30 - set off to the cupboard to feed dog, get distracted by remembering to get fish out of freezer for dinner, fall over dog again and remember to feed him
6.31 - Prepare rest of ds#1's lunchbox, fall over dog - pick up spoon that dd dropped at breakfast, check on teeth cleaning situation.
6.32 - chase #2 son around the house to get him to clean teeth, while passing, open lounge curtains, pick up cup from beside a chair, turn off taps that dd has left running
6.33 - go back into kitchen to put fruit into lunchbox, discover dog has emptied lunch box, start over!
6.40 - find dh cussing because video is now not playing the tape. Assures me he will be at the play today with new tape and video, say nothing and roll my eyes, pick up towel and put top back on tooth paste, turn off taps again.
6.45 - go into kitchen to turn off lights, fall over dog - damn forgot to feed him. Notice washing in dryer, empty dryer, F**k feed the dog!! feed the dog.
6.47 - go upstairs to lay out clothes for dd, ds#1 is dressed and playing with superheros, ds#2 is naked and watching. Chivvy ds#2 along, pick up pyjamas, pull back quilt and open curtains in his room.
6.48 - leave room, fall over toys, find dd#1 wearing most of my lipsalve all over her face - "maycup mama!" - remove item from her mitts and proceed to explain that she has enough now and I will put it safely up high until tomorrow, through gritted teeth as I discover I am now sitting in coconut lipsalve and it is on my jeans! Try to scrub off with a tissue!
6.49 - make bed, open curtains, open window, turn on computer, en route pick up dirty washing
6.50 - clean my own teeth whilst changing toilet roll which has been emptied and an new one gotten out, but roll not removed and trashed!
6.51 - go to check on dressing situation. Ds#2 is still naked, ds#1 is still playing, dd#1 is trying to get into a bag of magic tricks that are not hers (still in her PJ's). Remove afore mentioned item explaining gently that it isn't hers.
6.52 - appease and soothe following tantrum.
6.53 - take tantruming child to her own room so we can be distracted and encourage her to dress. She proceeds to diss all the items I have chosen, so we start again - her choices which consists of a completely impractical sweater, but no mind, I am too tired to argue. Get clothes laid out on the floor.
6.54 - turn around to find dd gone again!
6.55 - Open curtains in ds#1's room falling over scissors, paper, books and a blanket, pick all up, and fold blankets, pull back his quilt.
6.56 - Find dd in my bathroom in the bath playing with candles and votives! Remove her.
6.57 - DD finally decides to get dressed - on her own, I come to brush my hair and put on some make up !!!!
6.58 - DH mumbles he is going, steps over recycling and leaves - I forget to check if he has the video camera with him! Mumble back and carry on applying lippy!
7.00 - DD comes through half dressed, knickers, trousers and one sock with her stuffed animal collection for me to admire.
7.05 - Decide to check on ds#2 - still naked, raise my voice, offer a few threats, fall over toys and make a tit of myself, leave.
7.10 - dd1 is now dressed but smelling rather rank
7.11 - "I poohed in my pants"
7.12 - She poohed everywhere. Bath dd, change my clothes and start again.
7.25 - DS#1 - now wearing just a t-shirt and listening to a cd! Cuss, fall over toys, cuss, Dress him, leave room.
7.30 - Small voice "mummy, mummy" - run rushing to find dd wanting to do a puzzle! - you have GOT to be kidding right now??????? Sigh, sit down and do puzzle!
7.45 - Give 5 minute warning to get ready for school. I have PTA meeting this morning, then W's class play so need to go early to get coffee from the shop (I won't survive otherwise!)
7.50 - Time up warning, come to get ready
7.55 - chase up stragglers, find snow pants, snow boots, hats, gloves, coats for respective sprogs, fall over dog!
7.56 - Help dd put on coat and then go to put on mine
7.57 - help dd put coat on again - she thinks this is a game
7.58 - start a search party for ds#1's reader!
8.00 - have one child ready, one child missing and one child in process!
8.01 - go round house turning off lights, pick up towels, fall over dog, pick up puzzle pieces, find reader.
8.04 - Strap smallest enfant in car (helps me keep one child in one place!) go in, give reader to older child, find middle child's hat.
8.05 - hat cannot be found so tears and weeping commence at high decibels as to why he will be in trouble wearing his spiderman hat (can't wear characters at school). Sigh, turn hat inside out and plonk on his head!
8.07 - Older child now throwing a strop because I will not allow him to just wear his bodywarmer to school, this is after the strops he threw in the early part of the winter because I insisted on long trousers not shorts in temps of less than 40 deg F!!
8.08 - try to reason with ds#1. DS#2 on his way to the car, minus lunchbox and hat
8.09 - follow ds#2 out to strap him in, put hat back on head, take lunch box. Find dd without her boots and hat in the car *sigh* and ignore
8.10 - Chivvy ds#1 out of house in full attire including snow pants to echoes and grumbles of "it's not fair!"
8.11 - phone rings, dh has gotten a new tape, rambles about hoping the machine is not malfunctioning, I mumble incoherently about it not mattering at this point in time!
8.12 - all children strapped in, lock up, get in car and go, picking up recycling on the way.
8.13 - Return to house, unlock door to pick up ds#2's glasses, re-lock house, return to car cleaning glasses on the way.
8.20 - half way to coffee shop realise ds#1 hasn't got his bag with the READER! turn around, swearing rather loudly about responsiblity and servants!
8.25 - arrive back home, pick up bag and reader, get back into car.
8.27 - Cop car pulls a speeder over RIGHT OVER MY DRIVE!!!!! can't get out! FUCK!
8.40- Finally pull out of drive, we are going to now be LATE and COFFEE-LESS!
This is a pretty normal morning for us
This, on the otherhand is the morning as viewed from DH
5.30 - Hear dw get up, roll over
5.45 - Hear dw get up, pull her covers over to my side, roll over
6.00 - feel a sharp pain in lower leg, realise I have been snoring and have all the covers. DW says something that sounds like "6.00 blah blah kids, blah blah covers, blah blah"
6.05 - feel cold, realise dw has gotten up. Look at clock, get up.
6.10 - go downstairs to use the bathroom, find nice novel to read en route, step over recycling.
6.18 - Come out of bathroom, go into kitchen to unload dishwasher.
6.20 - kids all come downstairs making lots of noise demanding breakfast. Hear the word "play". Panic, have flashback, something to do with re-charging video batteries and a child's play today. Disappear to lounge to do this, hope dw doesn't notice.
6.21 - too late!
6.45 - realise I am in shit up to my neck, try desperately to think of good excuses. Not only is the battery not charged, but the fricking tape isn't working. Panic, feel dizzy!
6.50 - No need to confess, the wife has ESP and knows what has been going on. Recieve cold treatment! Like it is MY fault!!
6.55 - have shower, get ready for work, step over towels on the floor, walk past bedrooms wtih curtains shut. Watch wife make beds, think what a babe she is an how I would like to have sex with her right now.
6.56 - awake sharply from daydream. Get dressed, go downstairs to get computer, step over recycling, step over dog.
6.57 - Go back up stairs to kiss wife and tell her I will take the time on my way to work to get another tape for the video.
6.58 - Wife still giving cold treatment, but acknowledges me by offering her cheek.
7.00 - Get into car to go to work. Sigh, what a hard morning! Feel the weight slip away and turn on radio to listen to news!
7.25 - Fly into Walmart to get a new tape.
8.10 Call dw from cell phone to tell her I have found another tape and left it at the school. She will be really happy.
8.11 - Think I better tell her that it could be the video machine that is faulty.
8.12 - Not the best idea I have had in a while. This news was not recieved well!
8.20 - Arrive at work, Secretary has brought in my coffee and look, croissants this morning, yum........check diary.......nothing in for today except a lunch meeting!
Apparently the cost of a wife/mother per year (if she were to have a salary!) is somewhere in the region of £90,000!

For Sale!!!
I have:
Exhibit A: Slightly soiled model of a 2000 male comes with dirt stains, one scar on his back and a couple from chicken pox. Engine tends to wine when it doesn't work the way it was meant to or wanted to. Guzzles gas like there is no tomorrow, but will run on fruit and veg so makes for pretty cheap living! Makes a lot of noise, but is good at self entertainment, can be left for short intervals while buyer goes to pee! Can be sensitive and appears 6 going on 76, but don't be fooled by the gob!! This one actually will tidy up and has a great sense of humour. Hasn't had a haircut in a while so might need some moderation for the right buyer!
Exhibit B: A newer and louder version, this one is a 2002 male. Finger sucking cleanaphobe with a hatred for all things edible and green. Only works on "Manyana" setting and occasionally "stop" setting. "Fast" and "helpful" settings broke in childbirth!! Has a wonderful vocabulary of excuses "I need to pee", "I am tiiiiiiiiiired", "my legs don't work". Has long floppy hair , a cute face and a permanent desire to be butt naked. Very cuddly! Oh, this one is slightly visually impaired and wears glasses that make him so darned cute you won't be able to stay mad at him for long!!!!!!!
Exhibit C: The only female version in this series. A late 2004 model that comes with all pink accessories. Loves "maycup" and "me-lips". Eats anything that moves so beware, can be fatal! Is semi house-trained and loves using the "toylet" but be warned, has a fart that can kill! Unfortunately she has a serious speech impediment substituting "tr" for "f" so can be somewhat embarassing in supermarkets when she shouts about her new "tracking boots" or if she sees a truck go past. This model is particularly fast, moreso than the earlier models, she can move from one area of destruction to the next like a small tornado. She can do wonderous things with soap and keyholes, permanent marker and wallpaper and this one comes with a four legged partner in crime.......which I will throw in for FREE!!!!!!!!

Fridays and Fermented tea
Fridays are always manic in our household.
I seem to be perpetually chasing my tail.
This morning I took the children to school then drove over to our nearest Wild Oats for some snacks for the workshop I was leading, I know, this would be far improved if my organisational skills were such that I wasn't zipping out for this stuff last minute! However, this is me! While in W.O I saw they had some Kombucha tea which I had been hearing people talk about, so popped a couple of bottles into my cart. Do you do that? Go in for one or two things, start off with a basket, then have to change to a trolley cos you get too much!! Well, that's me too! Anyway, digression (perhaps it's the fermentation that is adling my brain as I type!)this is meant to pick up alertness, help boost your energy levels, aid with digestion etc etc. The lowdown is here then I forgot about it.
The rest of my day follows that I finish the workshop at 11.50 with a pick up at school at 12 and probably an 11 minute drive.....so herding these poor women out of the door, picking up karate kit and lunchboxes, I am now tearing back up to school to get W and I. I rush in out of breath to my poor daughter, the last one standing in the toddler playground and my son, who was about to be ferried back inside with the other Lost Boys, smiling and apologising to respective teachers.
We always eat lunch at school on a Friday so I don't have to do the darned drive back home an added time! Then W. goes for his Tae Kwon Do. Once this is over, I. and I have a disagreement about her being strapped in the car seat, which, despite the fact I tell her this is non-negotiable (yeah right, a 2 year old will obviously know that word!) I do feel for her as she spends a lot of time in and out of the car. We go home for 50 minutes, enough time to diaper change, let the dog out for a run, answer a few calls and e-mails, read a couple of books, tidy up the mess leftover from this morning and then back up to school to get T. He finishes at 3.30.
We are then back in the car, but not before allowing them to run around the labryinth at school - which, they decide to do barefoot - okay so it is the middle of September, it rained last night and there are twigs everywhere, but they are MY kids, so whaddya expect? I call last orders, we all pile back in the tank, back home, ONLY......wait for it. You think the story has ended there??? Oh no. We pull in the drive to the cries of "where's my backpack?" F^YU*&^*&^*
So, through gritted teeth and threats of no snacks cos there won't be time before supper, I return the same blasted route back to school only to find his backpack sat by the grass where he left it, but no lunchbox. So, here I am, serious idiot's head on, combing the school after everyone else (except the teachers) have left for the day finding his school reader and lunchbook, smiling inanely at any teacher I meet and mumbling into my beard about "not having yet made it home!"
SO, to make a long story even longer, the Kombucha is now opened and tried and it is weird to say the least, however, there is a great feeling of "I couldn't carelessness" about the way I feel as I type, so either that is my inner self becoming more and more restored, or I picked up the bottle of Chardonnay instead who knows??? Or rather.................
Who cares?????????

Fishing and Placentas
This is me
Well, okay, hopefully less of the elephant but I have just managed to find five minutes amidst the giddyness and squealing and basket of ironing.
I think I deserve a cup of tea too, but that would waste my five......by the time they have sniffed me out and tracked me down, my five minutes would be up! It has been a long day too. R is going through year end at the moment (yawn!) so he has been working every night for the past three weeks, so I have hardly had much time to see him. It has also meant he has come to bed really late, woken me up, and is then restless in the night because he has a lot on. Last night he woke up at 2.30, and went downstairs so he wouldn't disturb me.......He is so thoughtful - problem is, he had already woken me up and then proceeded to tell me why he is going !? He then returned at 3.30 and then woke up to go deep sea fishing at 5.30 am !!
yes, you did read that right deep sea fishing is what I said! Anyhow, he has texted me from the boat to say that he has caught his tea! 29.5" of it whatever breed it might be and also around 20 bluefish which they are going to all share between them. Good job my freezer is not full, mind you, I think I will let him gut them. A placenta is about as bloody as I can get and that is without the thought of how I might then "eat" it. That never really tickled my fancy I have to say but I understand it is quite delicious lightly fried with garlic and herbs and is full of nutrition (well, that part is obvious!). There are quite a few things you can do with your placenta though - should the desire take you of course!
Still, I am going out tonight with a friend so there is no need for me to spectate!
Yesterday I went along to the salon to have my eyebrows waxed and took T along for the experience! He wanted to know why ladies choose to have their noses decorated and their eyes polished! I have funny little visions running around in my head of a selection of finishes somewhat like the car-wash. He did then say he was really glad he wasn't a woman!

Alice sighed wearily. `I think you might do something better with the time,' she said, `than waste it in asking riddles that have no answers.'
I am inextricably linked to my diary. I need to get over this. My life is run by my fat black book that follows me - or probably leads me - everywhere. It would be fun to live a life where spontaneity ruled! But, that is not the case in our house or most house with children I don't doubt! Problem is, it is rubbing off - or perhaps it is in built with T. He has to have his days planned out. Right now he is planning Halloween down to the minutest details and it is only August! Our conversation this morning ran something like this:
Me " We might have to look after E and L today as C has to take S to the hosptial"
T "Oh great! so they are coming over to play?"
Me "Maybe, I don't know yet, we are keeping it open"
T " So they are probably coming?"
Me " no, not probably, maybe"
T " so is that before or after we go on the picnic and when are we going peach picking?"
Me " After the picnic, but we aren't going picking today because S has broken his arm"
T " Okay, so we are going to drama, then on a picnic, then E and L are coming over, what time?"
Me "no, only maybe"
T "That is what I said"
Me "Probably means highly likely which means you will be disappointed if they don't come, Maybe means perhaps"
T "That's what I meant.......when are we going peach picking then? Shall we go next week?"
Me - aaaggh I need to consult with my PA!!!!!
It makes my head spin!!!! R keeps asking me if I would like an electronic organiser - ha! That would then mean no escaping ever as it would be small enough to carry. At least with a large filofax, I can't carry it around all the time so on those moments that I am free from it's shackles I am a free spirit!
Only three weeks until school starts again - I can't believe where the summer has gone. I know I will be really glad in a couple more weeks as the boys are beginning to argue more intensely again. I find this. When they are around each other all the time, they get no respite from each other and their arguing increases, when they are at school or when they were doing camp, they were the best of buddies as they hadn't seen each other for a while during the day! I then seem to spend all the time just refereeing and really working on positive reinforcement, when all I want to do, and occasionally do do, is yell at them to be quiet and sort it out!!!
I. has her home visit coming up in a couple of weeks - I think I might see if I can get play dates for the boys as I can see some monopolisation going on!
Today we are going for a picnic in the park. We were going to go peach picking later but my friend's son fell off the monkey bars yesterday and was in the ER last night with either a horrid sprain or a fracture, so we will wait until he is better as they were coming too.
This weekend we are off the the Gathering of the Vibes in NY state. Time to put the tent into action. I am going to take I. in the Ergo for when her legs get tired, but I think I may take the stroller too in case she wants to sleep (or I do!). I need to make sure I have a ton of stuff for them to do, although I think there are activity tents for them as well. I don't know whether or not to bother with our stove as we are only going for two days (one night) and there is food there. I think we can probably get away with the bare minimum, just lots of water - oh and a box of cereal and plenty of raisins and fruit. I hope it is going to be good and that I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. I'll let you know!
I am going to let T's hair grow a bit more. He has lovely hair (okay, he has just come in with I's clips in it! but that is NOT the topic here!) It has gone really blond in the sun and he has some curls. I think I will just get his fringe trimmed and see how we do with it. I can hear my mum now, cringing, no, this is NOT a Romeo Beckham - that kid is a surrogate girl. I just think it looks so nice and free and he has plenty of time to have it cut into a formal bowl or skin head!!!!
Right - time to go on that note, I can hear them playing with I's jewellery box!

Cloning or Horcruxes??
Okay, so I have to admit that I am feeling somewhat dizzy at the moment. Having just received the schedules for starting school in September, and orientation I am not quite sure how I am going to be in three places at once as is required of me on one day !!!!!!! That is then not to mention how I am going to fit in scouts, swimming, piano and soccer practices for two children (poor I. doesn't get to do anything cos i can't fit her into the boy's social calendar!). I am wondering whether to get myself cloned, albeit that might be tough on the rest of ya, or whether to take a leaf out of the book of "He-who-must-not-be-named" and make horcruxes of a "nice" variety and just split myself several times over! Each child can then have a "mama" to take them where they need to be........hmmm, wonder if each mama comes with new car, fresh husband, different wardrobe etc etc or do we all have to share!!!!!???
You may, or may not, have noticed that there has been little said about my mum whom was lined up for the induction tomorrow......that's because she has decided NOT to go ahead with it. Good for her! She called her OB and told her how she felt and the OB was fine with all that. She is going in to be checked on Wednesday. You know, I really think that with the stress of the induction hanging over her, now gone, she might even go into labour naturally before then!! So I could well be sitting here this time next week now!! I hope she doesn't go into labour on Saturday morning - I am kayaking on The Sound and might be a little hard to page! oooer, I will just have to paddle down to Greenwich instead!!

Wearing Wellies and pantyliners:
?Why? you may ask has this title come about for today's entry? You don't know my daughter very well then if you even have to ask! It is only 8.35am over here and today already she has decided she is wearing half a box of pantyliners, her wellies and a doll's dress on her head, and earlier she had blue felt tip lips. We either need more locks or I have to do something about my own dress and make up skills because it worries me that children learn through copying (aagghh!).
I. has discovered the skill of opening locks. My maternal side is congratulating my 20 mth old daughter for her dexterity and intelligence at realising that standing on the outerside of the pantry is NOT going to achieve her goal of eating the contents on the innerside of the pantry.......hence a quick learning session and voila!
My non-maternal, I have to clear up this frickinfrackin' mess side is silently screaming at her capablilities. I don't wanna be clearing up weetabix whilst she is then in the dog food, all the while I am trying to think of ways to exterminate the mouse, who, by all accounts is the cleverest of the bloody lot of them! - On his tale - he can actually remove the cheese from the trap WITHOUT setting it off........but then, I think I would acquire this skill if I knew that I would be getting free weetabix and things dropped my way!
So, this skill (perfectly Montessori!!) has led her to opening our bathroom doors and cabinets - which are a joy - stickers!!!! Nice padded ones too. I think today's list of chores will include fortifying the lock situation, now where is I.?
I think she is wearing my post it notes!
